I start to think that artificial intelligence, especially machine learning, is just getting overhyped and haven't found reliable value in real life other than being "cool". This trend really needs to crash really hard before it can found its real value, just like cloud computing, big data, and the internet of things. Just my opinion though could be wrong :/.

>Makes something good that peaks our interest> doesn't ship internationally or can be bought online, DIY and single board computers these days. You talk about how you want "people to get into these types of stuff" but the only place they are available are the places every other Single board computer or DIY electronics are available.

I know this is designed to datamine people, but I hope a non-botnet open source version that can run offline comes out eventually.

FireFlyForLyfe Oh, I mean third parties, like open-source efforts. Most of this AIY thing is just a cool idea well-packaged into a solution, the hard problems like speech recognition aren't new. By showing the way with good usability, Google can inspire people that don't have ulterior motives.

I highly doubt they will release their backend to the public. It just seems way to expensive to just give away.

Really with I could actually buy this kit…. They are sold out online and looks like they don't plan on adding stock as far as I can tell. Nearest bookstore with it is the other side of the United States.
