In the next 2 videos I’ll cover how to lock Ms. Pac-Man perfectly inside of the maze as she moves around. We will do this not through colliders, but instead by using pivot points, which will make the movement very clean and also resource light. We’ll cover how to Setup Pivot Points, Putting GameObjects in an Array, Selecting GameObjects in Code, Cycling through GameObjects in Empties, Moving Ms. Pac-Man, Animating Ms. Pac-Man and much more.

Dude super difficult. Code could be done in no time in Phaser, and the map in Tiles, but i do understand your point with the collision. But, I would just make the collision rectangle of player smaller, then the sprite it self. Ill make this game tomorrow just for fun and to see what is what

i have not saw the previous ones, but in broad sense , this technique could be use as pathfinding for enemy AI, but for this is a overkill

I'm trying to show how to make games without relying to much on Unity's built in tools so that these techniques could be used with or without Unity. I guess I'm doing a bad job of explaining the goals of this tutorial series

I hope Pac-Man is the last 2d game in Unity. Looking forward to a Unity 3d up next.

I'm pretty new to programming but have always been very interested. I started learning Java a few weeks ago and these videos have been very interesting to me. You do a great job of explaining everything step by step and showing everything. Please keep making these videos. I appreciate how much time you put into it and know the value of these videos.

Thank you for the nice message 🙂 I have been receiving tons of negative emails lately and I appreciate it. I plan on making game development videos for at least the rest of this year.

Derek is it possible for you to create a Rogue tutorial?

Derek Banas Thank you. I wasn't specifically talking about Rogue, but there are many ASCII roguelikes.

I didn't realize you were talking about Rogue: Exploring the Dungeons of Doom. I thought you were talking about the generic rogue like procedurally generated games like The Binding of Isaac. I'll cover all the game mechanics required to make any game eventually.

Yes I'll make Zelda after Ms. Pac-Man and at some point very soon I'll also create a procedurally generated game

Wow .. Are you actually going to do the (amazing) AI behind the ghosts?!?

Derek Banas

Yes I know they follow a set path mainly so they don't pack on top of each other. Then I'm guessing a raycast is created that see Pac-Man and then one goes directly for Pac-Man while 2 others aim for the sides of Pac-Man. The one remaining I believe randomly makes turns. All of this is set up to best corner Pac-Man while also trying to avoid falling on top of each other. Yes I will aim to recreate that.

Each ghost (ie the 'enemies') has its own AI/personality, and it's utterly brilliant. Googling 'ms pacman ghosts behavior' brings up some GREAT explanations – might be too complex for a programming tutorial (or maybe not for Banas!) but it might be a perfect segue into game AI tutorials..(?) ps LOVE your work!!!

I'm not certain exactly what the ghosts do, but I'm going to try and copy their movements. That should start in part 21 of this series
