In this part of my Video Games Tutorial we will continue to design our Zelda clone, but this video is also a stand alone tutorial. We’ll be taking a look at how the Tiled Map Editor can make it easy to design levels. We’ll then bring those levels into Unity with Tiled2Unity. As an added bonus I’ll show you a quick way to fix Sprite Tearing.

hey Derek. question about the layers when adding the rock over the dungeon stair. i have layers set up just as you described, but i can still see the staircase under the rock. I checked over the video and i dont see what i am missing? thank you in advance and wonderful videos.

Hey Derek, thank you for the quick response!.. My issue turned out to be that i simply used the wrong sprite. There was a second stone sprite with the dirt added around it. My issue was that it didn't cover the stairs completely. Problem fixed! Great videos by the way. You helped me through my C++ course using a different video. But these game videos are super cool and i referred other class mates to try this out.

Is it maybe an opacity issue? If you see 1 sprite through another the opacity of the top sprite is less then 100%

Great video! Is there any disadvantage to doing it this way? Seems a lot easier.

Hey Derek, love your videos, I've learned so much about unity with your tutorials. I have a request for your next gaming tutorials; is it possible for you to cover a streets of rage or final fight clone with multiplayer? I can't seem to find good beat 'em up tutorials anywhere. Do you think it's because they are difficult to do? Or is it because they aren't popular anymore? I would love to see how a clone could be made in unity. Thx.

I see, I'll go ahead and watch the Mario tutorial again and take notes. Thx

No that stuff is easy with Unity. I did basically that in my Mario tutorial

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I do agree, the Sprite sheet creation for those games can be complex. But someone told me that they are challenging because of the contact boxes, animation, the way the camera scrolls/triggers, and the actual up and down movement of the characters, he said characters actually get a bit smaller as you move up the screen. I guess i just don't know where to start with the planning of it.

Thank you 🙂 Sure you can make any 2D game with Unity. A game like that wouldn't be hard. Always the hardest part is drawing the assets
