In the Google API Console, the IP restriction is only for server side requests. For the front end you would have to use the "HTTP referrers" restriction, and the problem is that the referrers header can be easily spoofed. And if you create a lambda function (or hide the key on the server side in general) doesn't your function merely act as a proxy to the API service? Couldn't somebody create a script that uses your lambda function to fill your newsletter db with random emails? (or in cases of paid APIs to increase your bill) The only sort of… Read more »
