We have the technology, thanks to the people behind software like Unreal Engine 4, and hardware that runs it, but there seems to be a lacking in developers, or at the very least people that are doing really exciting things. I know a lot of people are impressed with some AAA and indie games of the last 10 or so years, but to me we have just not seen the kind of work I truly believe is possible. A lot of people that have a passion for video games and creativity, don't have the ability to sit down and write… Read more »

MusicIs l0v everyone is different. I learned it in early high school so I got into it fairly early but some people struggle. it's like algebra, it might not make sense at first but stuck with it then it clicks eventually.

ThatGamePerson – I just purchased a course for C++/ Unreal Engine 4 by Ben Tristem on Udemy.
I hope learning C++ will be a breeze. 😥

I took the official one on Udemy, they gave it out for free during the epic mega jam and it was worth the 20 or so hours I spent to complete it. It might be worthwhile for you to take an introductory programming course as well beforehand. The logic isn't specific to C++, so you could take most programming courses and benefit. 3D Buzz has some great programming tutorials and they're always my go-to to send people to but I'm sure there are others now with equally fantastic programming courses. The final thing that probably gave me a head start… Read more »

ThatGamePerson – That's the thing. Programmers already know C++ so it's easy for them since blueprints are just a visual form of that. As a non programmer, I am lost as hell. I understand the concept of coding but I just can't figure out where to start. I can't think out of the top of my head, what I want to create because I don't fully understand all the nodes and how they specifically work. What class did you take?

Thats not the entire problem. But you're right. I'm a programmer by day but I work on software. I come home and make games but I never have time to really commit to anything. I love it but I feel like I can never develop to the fullest potential simply because I don't have the time.
