Richard Hinckley joins us again and discusses Gameplay Programming (GPP) using C++. One of the most important contributing factors to how your game feels is how the camera works. We explore some of the fundamentals of camera code and how it interacts with the player’s character and other elements in the game.

"The guy, is he still working? You might have heard of the guy…" and then he speaks the name of a VIDEO GAME DESGIN LEGEND. Hopefully this was sarcasm guys.

Miyamoto, right after Iwata, is like a god when it comes to making games that are fun

I absolutely love it whenever Richard is on stream. He seems to be extremely knowledgeable. It's good to have streams showing how to tackle real programming problems (as opposed to streams showing examples of engine features that are already explained in the UE4 docs).

Yea, honestly that was one of my favorite stream so far. The content fit really well for the length of the stream, and it was nice to see a concept being implemented from pretty much nothing to something actually useful in just about an hour with the different "stages" of the project. I also like his coding practices, like using the fail-fast principle. I think that is something important to teach, in contrast to just showing code to copy / paste.

Should I learn C++ Or Blueprint first?

Learn Blueprints first because it will help you understanding UE4, and then start to also do C++ and you will eventually be able to do both without problems.A lot of people on the UE4 community are afraid of C++ and they miss out on a lot of powerful features as a result, so make sure you learn both and take advantage of everything the engine has to offer!

If you already know programming, then the biggest hurdle to get over wiht unreal engine 4 isn't the programming language, but the engine API. Luckily, the blueprint scripting is based on the engine API, so by getting familiar with that you'll have a much easier time easing into doing it through C++.

AIDS Fid programming logic applies to every language. The problem is learning the syntax of a new language. C++ is by far the most complex but it's definitely the most rewarding when you get it down.
