Summary of this tutorial:

For our first recommended way to prevent accidental publishing would be to install and activate the Publish Confirm Plugin:

www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/step-by-step-guide-to-install-a-wordpress-plugin-for-beginners/

This plugin will work once activated without the need to configure settings.

When a post attempts to be published a popup will appear asking if you really want to publish the post.

If you would prefer to customize the message you can find our code you can add to your site in our article:

Is there a way to change the default "Publish immediately " setting to something else and avoid the necessity for a plugin?
